Somehow we’ve already reached the 5th post in this series. It’s already been a great journey exploring some of the best new music talent. In this edition we look at songs by: Neptune Valley, Oceanator, Me Rex and Lande Hekt. As always, a playlist of all these songs is at the end of the article if you wish to listen along. Lets jump straight in.

Neptune Valley:

Playing With You – This song has 2 distinct feels, one of straight no nonsense Artic Monkey’s esc indie rock, and another of more funk based Red Hot Chilli Peppers rock. This gives the track a great mix of sounds that are well intertwined. There is some impressive guitar work throughout, especially standing out during the bridge into the final chorus.

Oceanator:

I Would Find You – A beautiful, floaty adventure through synth pop. It features creative and complex structures and progressions with lots of overlapping lyrics and instruments. What’s created is a refreshing and engaging song that has so much depth to it. This ensures that it keeps its fresh sound listen after listen.

Me Rex:

Rites – This track brings back nostalgic early 2000’s pop-rock with splendid charm. The backing guitar riff is a great one to sway along to and the blend of voices in the chorus make the song such a delightful listen. The song just emits a fun time and would be good play almost anywhere.

Lande Hekt:

Whiskey – A brilliantly sentimental song that reflects on the fears of life. The song has a simple yet compelling structure that works entirely in its benefit. The instrumentation builds slowly as the song progresses shifting the words from the main focus to background noise. This builds the emotion of the song until it crescendos at the end.

The Future – This song keeps the personal and eloquent lyrics that feature in “Whiskey”. However, the track has a much heavier , more energetic backing with commanding guitar chords. It feels like a mix of The Wombats and The Killers which results in a passionate, but easy to listen to song.

Summary:

We have some songs of real quality this week, whether that’s in quality lyrics or complex structures. Each song is a really pleasant and easy listen meaning they should hopefully appeal somewhat to everyone. As for my favourite track this week, I’m torn between Lande Hekt’s “Whiskey” and Oceanator’s “I Would Find You”. As I am a big fan of songs with plenty of depth to explore, I think I will vote for Oceanator this week. Take a listen to all the tracks and make a decision yourself.
