Next in Up and Becoming we have 5 brilliant tracks from: FEVER, Dirty Laces, Strange Hellos and Professor Yaffle. As per usual, there will be a link to a playlist of all the songs at the end of the post. Lets drive straight in with this weeks tracks.

FEVER:

Honesty – This song mixes sentimental lyrics with a powerful driving guitar. Its a combo that makes the track both a pleasant melodic listen as well as a good one to jump around to. The gentle verses perfectly contrast the louder, more aggressive choruses. What results is a well developed track that improves with every listen.

Money Love – 2 minutes of straight, unbridled energy. The song’s lyrics take a very materialistic view of love and are backed by huge emphatic guitars. The shortness of the track ensures absolutely no power is lost throughout, and your attention never wanders.

Dirty Laces:

You – With the band hailing from Manchester, this track is a 7 minute epic that captures the music of the city. The songs structure and floaty, psychedelic verses remind me a lot of Oasis’s Champagne Supernova. The choruses however are heavy and grungy, with some exquisite shredding guitar work.

Strange Hellos:

Whispers In The Night – A blissfully mellow track that’s a dreamy trip through synth pop. The words are surprisingly heartfelt and sad creating a melancholic song. It’s a perfect song to just lean back and let it take you away.

Professor Yaffle:

A New Vibration – A very different track for Up and Becoming, this song is either a jumbled mess or a touch of psychedelic brilliance. Imagine putting the Happy Mondays into the 60’s. That’s what this song sounds like. It’s a song of many parts moving from one to the next seamlessly, introducing constant complexity with each change. Its heavily distorted instruments give it a really old authentic psychedelic feel.

Summary:

A real variety of tracks for this weeks up and becoming. We’ve jumped from heavy hitting indie rock, to relaxing Norwegian synth pop, to experimental modern day psychedelic. All of these tracks may not be for you, but there is likely something here that intrigues you. As for me, my favourite track has to be FEVER’s “Honesty”. It’s just an all round great track.
