We may have missed a week, but Up and Becoming is back. We have 5 more brilliant tracks this week from: Scott Curwen, Liam Hillyer, Parade and Paul Molloy. As always, there is a playlist of all of the tracks featured in this post at the bottom if you want to listen along. Lets get going:

Scott Curwen:

Stop The Rain – A gem of digital synth rock. The song isn’t too far from a Blossoms or early Kasabian track. It brings a floaty, dreamy backing vibe to a much harsher percussion arrangement. What results is a great contrast that carries through the song. Well thought out lyrics and and a delicious guitar riff makes for a amazing overall track.

Liam Hillyer:

This Town – An artist unafraid to wear his influences on his sleeve, the song has similarities to the music of The Who or The Jam. Passionately delivered and purposeful lyrics intertwine well with the great variety of electric riffs and chord stabs. On top of all this, the production of the low notes especially stands out in the mix of this song.

Parade:

Colours – Perry Manning recommended me this band in my recent interview with him (link here: http://gigmouths.co.uk/perry-manning-gigmouths-interview/). Safe to say he has good taste as this song is a marvellously fun time. As the 2nd synth rock track of the post, this one has a much faster pace. Its one of those tracks that just works in any situation whether its hearing live or driving along to. The sound most reminds of that of The Wombats or Two Door Cinema Club.

Paul Molloy:

My Madonna – Not being new to the music scene, The Coral’s Paul Molloy has bounced joyfully on his solo music adventure. There’s a lot of George Harrison in this track but with a soft indie twist. The resulting track is a wistfully beautiful one touching many different genres along the way.

Dungaree Day This song is an amusing and entertaining track with suitably ridiculous lyrics to follow. It sounds like one of those classic fun 60’s tracks, think The Monkees or the early Beach Boys. Lots of peppy percussion and light-hearted harmonies make a jubilant track that’s bound to put a smile on your face.

Summary:

A lot of really good tracks this week and many which are super versatile which means I’d love to hear them all live. That makes picking my favourite song a really tricky one. I’m gonna go with Paul Molloy’s “Dungaree day” as I am unashamedly biased towards 60’s music. There’s a lot of feel good tracks in this edition, so there will likely be something to entertain everyone.
