In the first Up and Becoming of 2021 we look at some amazing tracks from: Sam Lambeth, All Night Dining, Daydream Runaways and Sophie Dorsten. Hopefully this year it might actually be possible to watch some of these artists perform live. Anyways, without further ado, lets get into the songs.

Sam Lambeth:

When Love Ain’t Enough – Music at its core, its beautiful simplicity. Sam has written a deep emotional and touching track that is performed with such a simple arrangement, that every small detail feels tailored. Its got all the signs of a slow acoustic hit. Its definitely not one to stick on at a party but a great track to emotionally delve into.

All Night Dining:

There Must’ve Been A Reason – A soft rock indie treat. The band has created a song that really captures a lot of the indie boom years of the early 2000’s. There are vibes of Razorlight, The Fray and The Coral all tied in here. What really stands out here is a fantastic final bridge which leads into a vamped up version of the final chorus before reducing down to a barebones guitar finish. A great way to end a song.

Daydream Runaways:

Fairytale Scene – Another song that is not afraid to wear its indie heritage on its sleeve. The song has quite few changes to its pace and sound throughout. These take it from sounding something like The Wombats, to Two Door Cinema Club, to The Arctic Monkeys. What’s good is that it never settles on any of these for too long meaning the songs kept fresh. As a side note, the bands album artwork is amazing and wacky, whoever does that deserves a raise.

Sophie Dorsten:

Sea Salt – This song is a blissful journey through guitar pop and country and is a great one to get lost in. Sophie has a fantastic voice which carries the song through some brilliant high and low tones. There is a real dreamy laid back feel to the song which is largely provided by its backing harmonies and clean guitar strumming. The production is also fantastic making for a really immersive listen.

A-Ok – What starts as an upbeat acoustic track quickly turns into joyous dance synth with a great drop into the first chorus. The song is about positivity and it projects that from start to finish. It emits a similar sound to that of KT Tunstall. There is a superb middle 8 linking to the final rousing chorus that must be great when performed live.

Summary:

A decent variety of tracks this week with one heartfelt ballad, two classic guitar driven indie tracks and two more upbeat pop songs. There’s music for a lot of moods here whether you’re jumping around the room or quietly listening. I think my favourite track this week is Sea Salt. It creates such a brilliant atmosphere and soundscape that I just want to escape to. Listen to all the tracks mentioned in this post using the links below and see which ones your favourite.
